Sultan Eylül Öcal is a PhD candidate in Physics at Middle East Technical University (METU), where she also earned her BSc and MSc degrees. Her academic research focuses on nuclear physics, radiation effects, theoretical gravity models and space weather interactions.

Her study investigates high-latitude ionospheric irregularities to evaluate Arctic GNSS navigation safety and connects navigation reliability directly to shipping of Arctic energy resources and strategic minerals.
